KAS Selection Process 2026-27

The KAS recruitment process consists of three stages as prescribed under the Karnataka Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examinations) Rules, 1997.

Preliminary Examination An objective-type (multiple choice) screening exam consisting of two papers of 200 marks each (400 marks total), each of two hours’ duration. There is negative marking of one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned for every wrong answer.

Main Examination A conventional/descriptive written examination consisting of two qualifying papers (Kannada and English, 150 marks each) and five compulsory papers — Essay and General Studies I to IV (250 marks each) — for a total of 1250 marks.

Personality Test (Interview) Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are called for a Personality Test carrying 25 marks, taking the combined written + interview total to 1275 marks.
