To apply, you need a degree, the right age on 1 January 2027, and the medical fitness required for the posts you choose. Eligibility is accepted provisionally from your online form and checked fully at document verification.

Educational Qualification

For all four posts, you need a degree from a recognised university or its equivalent. You must already hold it on 6 November 2026, the closing date.

  • Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible and should not apply.
  • If your degree certificate is dated after the closing date, bring a mark sheet showing the result declaration date to DV.
  • The Computer Based Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with for the two Typist posts. Typing proficiency will instead be checked after joining, and poor performance may delay confirmation or promotion.

RRB NTPC Graduate Age Limit 2026

The RRB NTPC age limit is 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027 for all posts. In terms of date of birth (both dates inclusive):

If you qualify on more than one ground, you get the highest single relaxation; they are not added together. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation.

Medical Standards

Each post has a minimum vision standard, checked in the medical examination after DV:

  • A-2 (Goods Train Manager): Distant vision 6/9, 6/9 without glasses; near vision Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses. You must pass colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests.

RRB NTPC Graduate Selection Process 2026

The RRB NTPC Graduate selection process has four stages, and the final merit is decided by the 2nd Stage CBT. There is no interview and, for this CEN, no typing test.

  1. 1st Stage CBT: A screening test common to all four posts.
  2. 2nd Stage CBT: Candidates are shortlisted at 15 times the community-wise vacancies of their RRB, based on normalised 1st Stage marks.
  3. Document Verification (DV): Candidates are called in a 1:1 ratio to vacancies, based on 2nd Stage CBT merit.
  4. Medical Examination: You must meet the medical standard of the post allotted.

Posts and railway zones are then allotted by merit, your stated preferences, medical fitness and vacancies. Once empanelled for a post, you lose the right to be considered for any other post in the same pay level.

If marks are tied, the older candidate ranks higher. If age is also the same, the given name (not surname) in alphabetical order breaks the tie.

RRB NTPC Graduate Exam Pattern 2026

Both CBTs are objective, multiple-choice tests of 90 minutes (120 minutes for scribe-eligible PwBD candidates). Each question carries 1 mark, and 1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

1st Stage CBT: 100 Questions

  • General Awareness: 40 questions
  • Mathematics: 30 questions
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 questions

2nd Stage CBT: 120 Questions

  • General Awareness: 50 questions
  • Mathematics: 35 questions
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 35 questions

The section split is indicative and may vary slightly. Marks are normalised where the exam runs in multiple shifts.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum marks needed in each CBT are 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST. These also apply to Ex-Servicemen and PwBD by community. PwBD candidates may get a relaxation of 2 marks if suitable candidates are short.

Exam Language

Questions are available in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The paper shows your chosen language alongside English.

RRB NTPC Graduate Syllabus 2026

The RRB NTPC syllabus is the same for both stages; only the number of questions changes.

Mathematics: Number system, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, elementary algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and elementary statistics.

General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, number and alphabetical series, coding-decoding, mathematical operations, similarities and differences, relationships, analytical reasoning, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, puzzles, data sufficiency, statement-conclusion, statement-courses of action, decision making, maps and interpretation of graphs.

General Awareness: Current events of national and international importance, games and sports, art and culture of India, Indian literature, monuments and places, general science and life science (up to Class 10 CBSE), Indian history and freedom struggle, Indian and world geography, Indian polity and governance, science and technology including space and nuclear programmes, the UN and world organisations, environmental issues, basics of computers, common abbreviations, transport systems in India, Indian economy, famous personalities, flagship government programmes, flora and fauna, and important government and public sector organisations.

RRB NTPC Graduate Application Fee 2026

The RRB NTPC application fee is Rs. 500 for general candidates and Rs. 250 for concession categories. Most of it is refunded if you actually appear in the 1st Stage CBT.

  • General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates: Rs. 500, of which Rs. 400 is refunded after you appear in the 1st Stage CBT
  • SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities and EBC: Rs. 250, fully refunded after you appear in the 1st Stage CBT

Bank charges are deducted from refunds. The refund goes only to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account confirmed during the application. If you do not have one, you can use a family member’s Aadhaar-seeded account. There is no refund if your application is rejected or incomplete.

Pay online only, through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.

EBC is not the same as OBC or EWS. EBC means an annual family income below Rs. 50,000 and gives only a fee concession, not job reservation. You need an EBC income certificate in the CEN format, a BPL card or an Izzat MST, issued on or before the closing date. Minority candidates must give an affidavit (Annexure IV) at DV.

How to Apply Online for RRB NTPC Graduate 2026

You can apply online for RRB NTPC Graduate only at www.rrbapply.gov.in. Follow these steps:

  1. Create an account: Use a personal mobile number and email ID for OTPs. If you created an account for any RRB CEN in 2024, 2025 or 2026, log in with the same credentials. Details in this form can never be changed later.
  2. Verify your identity: Authenticate through Aadhaar or DigiLocker. Candidates using other photo IDs face much stricter checks at every stage.
  3. Choose one RRB: Select one RRB and set your order of post and zone preferences within it. Posts you do not select will not be considered.
  4. Fill in the form: Enter your name, parents’ names and date of birth exactly as in your Class 10 certificate. Choose your exam language.
  5. Capture a live photo: The portal takes a live photo through your webcam or phone camera. Use a plain white background, wear dark clothing, and do not wear glasses, a cap or a mask.
  6. Upload your signature: Sign in running handwriting with black ink on white paper. The file must be JPG/JPEG, 30 KB to 49 KB, at least 140 x 60 pixels.
  7. Upload your SC/ST certificate (PDF under 400 KB) only if you want the free sleeper class rail pass.
  8. Pay the fee: Pay online by 8 November 2026. Your application is accepted only after payment is confirmed by SMS and email.

Documents for Document Verification

  • Class 10 certificate (proof of date of birth) and degree certificate or mark sheets with the result date
  • SC/ST certificate (Annexure I), OBC-NCL certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026 (Annexure II) with self-declaration (Annexure II A), or EWS Income and Asset Certificate for FY 2025-26 (Annexure III)
  • EBC certificate, BPL card or Izzat MST, and the minority affidavit, if you claimed a fee concession
  • PwBD certificate, Ex-Servicemen discharge papers, or No Objection Certificate from your employer, if applicable
  • Self-declaration on Lasik or corrective eye surgery (Annexure VII), if applicable
  • Proof of present address and two sets of self-attested photocopies of all documents

Certificates must be in English or Hindi, or come with a self-attested translation. No extra time is given at DV for missing originals.

Exam Day Rules

  • Carry your e-call letter, an original photo ID (Aadhaar, e-Aadhaar printout, Voter ID, PAN, passport, driving licence or college ID), and a colour passport photo not older than two months.
  • Do not bring a pen or pencil. The centre provides a pen.
  • Phones, watches, earphones, calculators, wallets, belts, caps, water bottles and food are banned. Lockers may not be available.
  • Avoid henna or mehndi on your hands, since it blocks biometric capture.
  • You will write a self-declaration paragraph and sign it in the exam hall. Do not sign in capital letters.
  • SC/ST candidates who opted for it get a free sleeper class rail pass with the e-call letter. Carry your original caste certificate while travelling.

Unfair means can lead to a lifetime ban from all RRB and RRC exams and prosecution under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

Preparation Tips for RRB NTPC Graduate 2026

  • Make General Awareness your strength. It carries 40 of 100 questions in Stage 1 and 50 of 120 in Stage 2.
  • Focus on the 2nd Stage CBT. Stage 1 only screens candidates; Stage 2 marks decide the final merit.
  • Avoid wild guesses. Each wrong answer costs 1/3 mark, so attempt only questions you are reasonably sure of.
  • Use the official mock tests. RRB provides practice tests on its website to get used to the CBT interface.
  • Check your eyesight early. Goods Train Manager needs A-2 vision without glasses, and Lasik candidates are not eligible for it.
  • Pick your RRB carefully. Transfers to other railways are generally not registered for 5 to 10 years after joining.
