CSIR-NCL MTS Eligibility Criteria 2026

CSIR-NCL MTS Selection Process 2026

The final merit list will be prepared only on the basis of marks in the Competitive Written Examination; there is no interview. The selection stages are:

1. Screening / Shortlisting of applications
2. Competitive Written Examination (OMR or Computer Based)
3. Document Verification (DV)
4. Medical Examination

If the exam is held in multiple shifts, scores will be normalized using the CSIR percentile-based method (Annexure-XIII). In case of a tie, the candidate with fewer negative marks is placed higher, followed by the older candidate, then the candidate who acquired the essential qualification earlier, and finally alphabetical order of first names.

CSIR-NCL MTS Exam Pattern 2026

The CSIR-NCL MTS written exam has 150 objective questions for 450 marks, to be solved in 2 hours. Each correct answer carries 3 marks and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, with total emoluments of about Rs. 40,000 per month at the minimum of the scale (including HRA in a Class ‘X’ city).

An MTS at CSIR-NCL is responsible for maintaining section records, general cleanliness and upkeep, carrying files and documents between sections, photocopying, delivering dak, opening and closing rooms, dusting furniture, preparing and serving tea/coffee to officials and guests, and any other work assigned by superior officers.
