The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Chennai has released the RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 notification for 67 posts in Pay Matrix Level 1 to Level 5. Online applications opened on 26 September 2026 at 9:00 am and will close on 25 October 2026 at 11:59 pm.

This is an open advertisement under Employment Notice No. RRC-02/Sports/2026-27, dated 26 September 2026. It is open to Indian sportspersons in Athletics, Boxing, Basketball, Cricket, Cue Sports, Football, Hockey, Volleyball and Weightlifting. Selection is based on sports trials, sports achievements and educational qualification. There is no written exam.

RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota Vacancy 2026

There are 67 posts in total: 5 in Level 5/4, 16 in Level 3/2 and 46 in Level 1.

Important vacancy rules:

• No post is reserved for any community such as OBC, SC or ST.
• If you apply for more than one game or event, you must pay a separate fee and upload separate documents for each.
• If you apply for posts in different pay levels, you must pay a separate fee for each pay level.
• A post left vacant for one position will not be filled by a player from another position in the same game.

RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Candidates must be 18 to 25 years old as on 1 January 2027. This means you must be born between 2 January 2002 and 1 January 2009, both dates included.

• No age relaxation is allowed for any category, upper or lower.
• Your date of birth must match your Class 10 / Matriculation certificate. Any mismatch leads to disqualification.
• You cannot change your date of birth after you submit the application.

Educational Qualification

Key points on qualification:

• Candidates who are still waiting for final exam results are not eligible.
• There is no relaxation in minimum qualification. Your degree or certificate must be from a government-recognised institution.
• Anyone appointed as Clerk cum Typist must reach a typing speed of 30 wpm in English or 25 wpm in Hindi within 4 years. Until then, the appointment stays provisional.

Sports Norms for RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota 2026

Your sports achievements must be from 1 April 2024 onwards, up to the date of the notification. You must also be an active player. The concluding day of a championship decides whether your achievement falls in this period.

Categories of International Championships

Minimum Sports Norms by Pay Level

Level 5/4: At least 3rd position in any Category B event.

Level 3/2: Any one of the following:

• Represented India in any Category B event.
• At least 3rd position in any Category C event.
• At least 3rd position in Senior, Youth or Junior National Championships.
• At least 3rd position in National Games organised under the Indian Olympic Association.
• At least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championships under the Association of Indian Universities.
• First position in the Federation Cup Championship (Senior).

Level 1: Any one of the following:

• Represented India in any Category C event.
• At least 3rd position in the Federation Cup Championships (Senior).
• Represented a State or equivalent unit with at least 8th position in the Senior National Championships (not valid for Marathon and Cross Country).
• At least 3rd position in Youth or Junior National Championships.
• At least 3rd position in National Games under the Indian Olympic Association.
• At least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championships under the Association of Indian Universities.

If you meet the norms for a higher pay level, you can also apply for a lower level. However, you will be considered only for the level you applied for. You must also give an undertaking that you will not claim a higher pay level after joining on the basis of earlier achievements.

Special Norms for Athletics, Cricket, Hockey and Volleyball

Athletics: A medal in the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships can count for Level 2. A gold medal in the Open National Championships (Senior), Inter State Athletics Championships (Senior) or Asian Championships (Senior) can count for Level 5/4.

Cricket (BCCI events):

• Level 5/4: played for India A or India U-19 in 2 Tests, 2 ODIs or 2 T20s.
• Level 3/2: quarter-finalist in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter State Group Championships (except Plate Group), or played in the Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-Zonal Championship or Challenger Trophy.
• Level 1: pre-quarter-finalist in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter State Championships (except Plate Group).

Hockey (Men): For Level 2 or 3, playing in an international tournament (Senior or Junior) of four or more nations, or reaching the semi-final of the Senior National Championships, may also count.

Volleyball: Certificates issued by the Volleyball Federation or its affiliated units after 25 June 2020 will not be considered. Certificates from the Association of Indian Universities and international federations are accepted.

Recognised Junior National Championships

As per Railway Board letter RBE 118/2025, only certificates from National Sports Federations recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS) will be accepted. Championships must also be recognised by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB).

RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota Salary 2026

Selected candidates join at the minimum pay of their level in the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, plus allowances as per railway rules.

The railway administration decides your final pay level and posting place when it offers you the appointment. It considers four things: vacancies available, your education, your sports achievements, and your marks in the recruitment process.

RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota 2026 Selection Process

The selection is based on sports trials, sports achievements and educational qualification. There is no written test.

Stage 1: Sports Trials (40 Marks)

All eligible candidates are called for trials. A trial committee judges your game skill, physical fitness and the coach’s observation, out of 40 marks.

• FIT: 25 marks or more. Only FIT candidates move to the next stage.
• NOT FIT: below 25 marks. The recruitment committee will not assess these candidates further.

Stage 2: Assessment by the Recruitment Committee

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Appointments are given purely on merit and vacancy availability. If two candidates have the same marks, the younger candidate ranks higher. Only players who can fit into the Southern Railway team will be considered.

Documents to Bring on the Trial Day

You must bring the originals of all documents you uploaded on the day of document verification and trials. Without them, you will not be allowed to take part in the trials. These include:

• Educational certificates and mark sheets
• Sports achievement certificates
• Date of birth proof (Class 10 certificate)
• Community certificate (if applicable)
• Minority or income certificate (if claimed)
• Photo ID such as Aadhaar, PAN or Driving Licence

You must pay your own travel and stay costs for the trials, and requests to change the date or venue will not be accepted.

Medical Examination

RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota 2026 Application Fee

• Pay online only, through debit card, credit card or net banking.
• Applications without the correct fee will be rejected.
• Minorities means Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis).
• Economically Backward Classes (EBC) means annual family income below Rs 50,000. The income certificate must be in the prescribed format from an authorised officer, such as a District Magistrate or a Revenue Officer not below Tahsildar rank. A BPL card is also accepted.
• Save or print the e-receipt after payment.
