WB NMMS Registration 2026: The Directorate of School Education, West Bengal, has announced that registration for the Central Sector National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMSE), 2026, for students studying in Class VIII, is now live.

Online applications are available on the School Education Department’s Scholarship Portal from 28th July 2026, and the last date for submission is 16th September 2026. WB NMMS Examination 2026

The Central Sector National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Examination, 2026, is being conducted for students studying in Class VIII of any recognised Government, Government Aided, Local Body, or Government Sponsored School (including Madrasah) of West Bengal, without residential facility. The scholarship aims to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections to continue their education at the secondary and higher secondary stage. West Bengal NMMS Eligibility Criteria 2026

Online applications are invited from students studying in Class VIII of any recognised Government/Government Aided/Local Body or Government Sponsored School, including Madrasah, of West Bengal, without residential facility, who have secured 55% and above marks in the final examination of Class VII (5% relaxation applicable to SC, ST and Disabled candidates) to appear in the Central Sector NMMS Examination, 2026.

Not Eligible to Apply: Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, State Government-run residential schools, or any private school are not entitled to apply or to get the scholarship.

WB NMMS Parental Income Criteria 2026

Parental income of the appearing candidate should be within the limit of ₹3,50,000 (Rupees Three Lakh Fifty Thousand) per annum from all sources, and an income certificate must be uploaded, as follows:

  • For salaried persons employed in Government, Semi-Government and Government Aided Organisation/Institution: an Employer Certificate for the period from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026 is to be uploaded.
  • For other persons: an income certificate for the period from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026, obtained from any Competent Authority not below the rank of Jt. B.D.O./Executive Officer (in case of Corporation and Municipality area) or from any Group A officer, is to be uploaded.

How to Apply for WB NMMS Registration 2026

  1. Visit the School Education Department’s Scholarship Portal, https://banglarshiksha.wb.gov.in/scholarships.
  2. Fill in the online application form with the required personal, academic and bank account details.
  3. Print the filled-in application form and the Certificate format.
  4. Get the Certificate signed with official seal by the Head of the School/Institution where the applicant is studying.
  5. Upload the signed Certificate to the applicant’s account, along with scanned copies of:
    • Parental annual income certificate issued by a competent authority
    • Caste Certificate issued by the Competent Authority (if applicable)
    • Disability Certificate (40% and above disability, certified by the Competent Medical Board of the State/Central Government), where applicable
  6. Upload the photograph in JPG format (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm), with a maximum file size of 50 KB.
  7. Ensure each scanned document (PDF) does not exceed 200 KB in size.
  8. Confirm that the application submission is complete only after the Certificate from the Head of School/Institution and other necessary documents are uploaded; otherwise, the candidature will be cancelled.

WB NMMS Bank Account Requirements 2026

  • Every applicant must have a bank account in his/her name in SBI or any Public Sector Bank, or any scheduled bank with core banking facility. The account may be a single or joint account; in the case of a joint account, the applicant must be the first holder of that account.
  • If the applicant has an Aadhaar Card, the bank account mentioned in the online application must be seeded with the Aadhaar Card, and the same must be mentioned in the application.

West Bengal NMMS District Selection Guidelines 2026

West Bengal has 23 Administrative Districts and 2 additional Educational Districts — Barrackpore Education District (comprising Barrackpore and Bidhannagar sub-divisions) and Siliguri Education District (comprising Siliguri sub-division). Applicants should note the following while selecting their district:

  1. If an applicant is studying in any school under the Barrackpore or Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) sub-division, he/she must choose Barrackpore as the district, instead of North 24 Parganas or Kolkata.
  2. If the candidate is studying in any school under the Siliguri sub-division, he/she must choose Siliguri as the district, instead of Darjeeling.

Applicants should opt for the district in which their school is situated.

There is no prescribed syllabus for the NMMS Examination; the standard of items shall conform to the level of Class VII and VIII. The Scholastic Aptitude Test comprises the following subjects:

West Bengal NMMS Quota and Selection 2026

The state quota of beneficiaries for West Bengal is 7,250, segregated among 25 districts, including the Barrackpore and Siliguri Education Districts. In case of tie-up cases at the last cut-off marks under different categories, selection of students is done on the basis of date of birth (junior to senior), and the number of tie-up cases should not exceed the respective district quota or the state quota.
