JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
There is no age limit for JEE Main 2027. However, the institutes where you want to take admission may have their own age and eligibility rules, so check them on their websites. The table below gives the year of passing rule.
| Class 12 / equivalent passing year | Eligible for JEE Main 2027? |
|---|---|
| Passed in 2025 | Yes |
| Passed in 2026 | Yes |
| Appearing in 2027 | Yes |
| Passed in 2024 or earlier | No |
The passing year is the year in which your result was first declared as pass. An improvement attempt does not count as your first attempt. For example, if you passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 2025 and then passed Mathematics in 2026, then 2025 is your passing year. Candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2027 can fill the roll number or registration number in the application form.
Qualifying examinations accepted:
- Final exam of the 10+2 system from any recognised Central or State Board (such as CBSE, CISCE and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education)
- Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination from a recognised Board or University
- Final exam of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
- NIOS Senior Secondary examination with a minimum of five subjects, and the BOSSE (Sikkim) examination
- Any Public School, Board or University exam in India or abroad recognised as equivalent to 10+2 by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
- Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination
- A diploma recognised by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 years
- GCE A level (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka), the Cambridge High School Certificate or the International Baccalaureate Diploma
- Candidates with Class 12 from outside India or from a Board not listed above need an AIU equivalence certificate
State of eligibility: This is the State from where you passed Class 12 (or equivalent). It does not depend on your native place or where you live. If you passed from one State and took an improvement exam from another, the State where you first passed is your State of eligibility. NIOS and BOSSE candidates select the State where their study centre is located.
JEE Main 2027 Reservation of Seats
Seats are reserved for Indian nationals in the categories listed in the table below, in every programme, as per Government of India rules. The category and sub-category you enter in the JEE Main form are also used for JEE Advanced, so fill them in carefully.
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| General-EWS | 10% of seats in every programme |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 27% of seats in every programme |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 15% of seats in every programme |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 7.5% of seats in every programme |
| Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) | 5% seats in each of the General, Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories |
OBC candidates must be in the current central list of OBCs, and candidates in the creamy layer are treated as General. OBC communities that are only in a State list are not eligible for the benefit. For PwBD candidates, UDID card details are verified from the UDID portal, and those without a UDID card must upload the disability certificate in the right format.
JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern
All papers are objective. Each subject in Paper 1 and Part I (Mathematics) of Paper 2 has two sections: Section A with multiple choice questions (MCQs) and Section B with questions whose answer is a numerical value. For Section B, you type the integer answer with the on-screen keypad and round it off to the nearest integer. The first table gives the Paper 1 pattern, and the next two tables give Paper 2A and Paper 2B.
| Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) | Section A (MCQ) | Section B (Numerical) | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Physics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Total (75 questions) | 60 | 15 | 300 |
| Paper 2A (B.Arch) | Questions | Marks | Mode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part I: Mathematics (20 MCQ + 5 numerical) | 25 | 100 | CBT |
| Part II: Aptitude Test (MCQ) | 50 | 200 | CBT |
| Part III: Drawing Test | 2 | 100 | Pen and paper on an A4 drawing sheet |
| Total | 77 | 400 |
| Paper 2B (B.Planning) | Questions | Marks | Mode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part I: Mathematics (20 MCQ + 5 numerical) | 25 | 100 | CBT |
| Part II: Aptitude Test (MCQ) | 50 | 200 | CBT |
| Part III: Planning-Based Questions (MCQ) | 25 | 100 | CBT |
| Total | 100 | 400 |
The exam is held in two shifts every day. The duration and the timing of each shift are in the table below. PwD/PwBD candidates who are eligible for a scribe get compensatory time of at least 20 minutes per hour, which makes it 4 hours for the 3-hour papers and 4 hours 40 minutes for the 3 hours 30 minutes paper.
| Paper(s) | Duration | First shift | Second shift |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1, or Paper 2A, or Paper 2B | 3 hours | 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon | 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM |
| Paper 2A and Paper 2B both | 3 hours 30 minutes | 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM | 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM |
JEE Main 2027 Marking Scheme, Merit and Tie-Break Rules
The marking scheme is the same for MCQs and numerical value questions. Note that there is negative marking in Section B (numerical) as well, so do not guess without thinking in either section. The table below gives the marks for each type of answer.
| Type of answer | Marks |
|---|---|
| Correct answer (MCQ or numerical) | +4 |
| Incorrect answer (MCQ or numerical) | -1 |
| Unanswered or marked for review without selecting an option | 0 |
- If a question has more than one correct option, +4 goes to everyone who marked any of the correct options. If all options are correct, +4 goes to all who attempted the question.
- If a question is dropped or found incorrect, +4 is given to all candidates who appeared in that shift.
- The Drawing Test of Paper 2A has 2 questions evaluated out of 100 marks, and there is no negative marking in it.
- Merit: The raw marks of each shift are converted into NTA scores (percentile based normalisation), and the overall merit is made by merging the NTA scores of all shifts of both sessions.
- Tie-break in Paper 1: NTA score in Mathematics first, then Physics, then Chemistry, then the candidate with the lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in all subjects, and then in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in turn. If the tie still remains, the same rank is given.
JEE Main 2027 Syllabus
The Information Bulletin does not list the topics. It says the detailed syllabus of JEE Main is available on the NTA website, so download it from there. The subjects of each paper are given in the table below.
| Paper | Subjects / Parts |
|---|---|
| Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with equal weightage |
| Paper 2A (B.Arch) | Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test |
| Paper 2B (B.Planning) | Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Planning-Based Questions |
For syllabus and exam pattern guides of other exams, see our Syllabus section.
JEE Main 2027 Exam Cities (West Bengal)
You can choose up to four exam cities in order of priority, from the State of your permanent address or the State of your present address only. NTA tries to give you a city in your order of choice, but it can allot a different city for administrative reasons, and it can merge cities that have very few candidates. The city cannot be changed on request. The table below lists the JEE Main 2027 exam cities in West Bengal.
| City | Code | City | Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bankura | WB16 | Kolkata | WB10 |
| Burdwan (Bardhaman) | WB02 | Malda | WB20 |
| Durgapur | WB04 | Murshidabad | WB21 |
| Hooghly | WB06 | Purba Medinipur | WB14 |
| Howrah | WB07 | Siliguri | WB11 |
| Kalyani | WB08 | Suri | WB22 |
| Kharagpur | WB13 |
Bengali medium: The question paper in English and Bengali is available at exam centres in West Bengal, Tripura, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The question paper is always in English and your chosen language, and the English version prevails if there is any difference. You must choose the language in the application form, and it cannot be changed after the correction window closes. If too few candidates choose a regional language in a city, NTA can allot a centre in another city.
How to Apply for JEE Main 2027 Session 1
The application is online only, and registration is done through MeriPehchaan, the government's National Single Sign-On platform. You can fill in the three steps together or at different times. The Application Number you get will be used for both Session 1 and Session 2. Follow the steps below.
- Step 1: Registration. Register through the MeriPehchaan sign-in on the application portal, create a password, and note down the system-generated Application Number.
- Step 2: Application form. Log in with your Application Number and password. Fill in your personal details, choose your paper(s), exam cities and medium, enter your educational qualification, and upload the images and documents. Capture a live photograph with your webcam, or by scanning the QR code with a phone.
- Step 3: Fee payment. Pay the fee by Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI, and keep the proof of payment.
- Step 4: Confirmation Page. Download, save and print the Confirmation Page, which is generated only after successful payment. Your candidature is confirmed only after the fee is received.
Important points:
- Fill in only one application form. Multiple forms can lead to cancellation of the result, and appearing under more than one Application Number is treated as unfair means.
- Use your own (or your parent's or guardian's) email ID and mobile number. All information is sent only by email and SMS, and one mobile number and email can be used for one form only.
- Password rule: 8 to 13 characters, with at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, one number and one special character.
- Details like name, date of birth, category, PwD status, exam cities and medium are treated as final after submission. You get a one-time correction window (November 27 to 29), and only the fields that NTA enables can be edited.
- Do not send any document or printout to NTA by post, fax, WhatsApp, email or by hand.
- For help with the form, call 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or email jeemain@nta.ac.in.

The issue of an admit card does not mean your eligibility is accepted, as it can be checked again at the admission stage.

JEE Main 2027 Preparation Tips
- Apply early: The form is open for about a month, but do not wait for the last day, because websites are slow when many candidates apply. Late filing costs an extra Rs. 500.
- Do not guess in Section B: Numerical questions also carry -1 for a wrong answer in 2027.
- Balance all three subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry carry 100 marks each, and Mathematics is the first tie-break subject.
- Use the two sessions well: Session 1 is a good first attempt, and your best NTA score counts if you also take Session 2 in April.
- Practise in CBT mode: Take full-length mock tests of 3 hours and get used to typing numerical answers with the on-screen keypad.
- Check your documents: Keep your Class 10 certificate, category certificate and UDID card (if applicable) scanned, and match your name and date of birth with the certificate.
- Keep a plan B: After Class 12, you can also check other openings for 12th pass candidates, such as the Indian Coast Guard CGEPT recruitment.
