WBSSC Group C & D Exam Pattern 2026
The Group C paper carries 60 marks and is set at Class 10 level. The Group D paper carries 40 marks and is set at Class 8 level. Neither paper has negative marking.
| Subject | Group C Marks | Group D Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | 20 | 20 |
| Logical Reasoning | 10 | 10 |
| General English | 10 | — |
| Arithmetic | 20 | 10 |

With no negative marking and a fairly easy paper, many candidates scored close to full marks. This is the main reason the expected cut off is so high this year.
WBSSC Region-Wise Vacancy 2026
WBSSC prepares a separate merit list for each region, so every region has its own cut off. Regions with more vacancies usually have a slightly lower cut off.
| Region | Group C (Clerk) | Group D | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eastern | 717 | 995 | 1,712 |
| Northern | 615 | 1,607 | 2,222 |

| Southern | 491 | 680 | 1,171 |
| Western | 723 | 1,673 | 2,396 |
The final merit list will be prepared region-wise, medium-wise, gender-wise and category-wise.

WBSSC Group C Expected Cut Off 2026 (Out of 60)
The Group C (Clerk) cut off is expected to follow the same regional trend as Group D: Southern highest, then South Eastern and Eastern, then Western, with Northern lowest.
The Group C paper included General English and a larger Arithmetic section, so it was slightly tougher. We therefore converted the Group D trend to 60 marks and adjusted it a little downward.
| Region | UR | OBC | SC | ST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Southern | 56–58 | 52–54 | 50–52 | 48–50 |
| South Eastern | 55–57 | 50–52 | 49–51 | 47–49 |
| Eastern | 55–57 | 52–54 | 50–52 | 47–49 |
| Western | 53–55 | 52–54 | 50–52 | 48–50 |
| Northern | 52–54 | 51–53 | 49–51 | 46–48 |
Note: EWS and PwD cut offs are expected to be somewhat below UR in each region. The exact gap will only be known from official data.
WBSSC Group C D Safe Score 2026
| Post | UR Safe Score | Reserved Category Safe Score |
|---|---|---|

Crossed the Expected Cut Off? Here Is What to Do Now
If your score is within or above the expected range, don’t just wait for the result. Use this time to prepare. Here is a complete action plan.
Step 1: Recheck Your Score From the Official Answer Key
- Download the official answer key from westbengalssc.com and recount your marks carefully.
- Keep a screenshot or printout of your response/OMR copy, if available.
- Note your exact score, region, category and medium. You will need these to compare with the official cut off.
Step 2: Get All Your Documents Ready (Most Important)
Many candidates lose their chance at document verification because of small document problems. Start collecting and checking these now:
| Document | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Admit Card | Keep at least 2–3 printouts |
| Online Application Form Printout | Details must match your documents |
| Madhyamik Admit Card/Certificate | Age proof; name and date of birth must match |
| Educational Certificates & Marksheets | Madhyamik, HS, Graduation (as applicable) |
| Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC) | Must be valid and issued by the competent West Bengal authority |
| OBC Category (A/B) | Must match the sub-category selected in your application |
| EWS Certificate | Must be valid for the current period |
| PwD Certificate | If applicable |
| Experience Certificate | For “similar experience” marks; check that it is issued in the prescribed format by a recognised authority |
| Domicile/Residential Certificate | If required per notification |
| Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID | For identity proof |
| Passport-size Photos | Keep 8–10 recent copies, same as the application photo |
Common problems to fix now:
- A spelling mismatch in your name across certificates (for example, “Mondal” vs “Mandal”). Get an affidavit or correction done early.
- A date of birth mismatch between your Aadhaar and your Madhyamik certificate.
- An expired or wrong-category caste certificate.
- An OBC sub-category mismatch. WBSSC recently allowed candidates to edit this: the OBC sub-category/unreserved edit window ran from 1 to 8 September 2026.
Tip: Make 2–3 sets of self-attested photocopies of every document. Keep originals and copies in a separate file folder.
Step 3: Group C (Clerk) Candidates: Start Typing Practice Today
The typing-cum-computer proficiency test carries heavy weightage, so a good typist can overtake someone with a higher written score.
- Practise typing daily for 30–60 minutes, in both English and Bengali (Unicode, such as Avro).
- Focus on accuracy first, then speed. Mistakes usually cost more than slow speed.
- Learn basic MS Word: formatting, tables, saving files, page setup.
- Learn basic MS Excel: entering data and using simple formulas like SUM and AVERAGE.
- Learn basic computer skills: file and folder management, email, internet use and printing.
- Understand school office work: registers, fee records, service books, letters and notices. Clerks in schools handle these daily.
Step 4: Prepare for the Interview
The interview is short, but it can decide your final rank.
Common interview questions:
- Introduce yourself (name, address, education, family).
- Why do you want this job?
- What are the duties of a Group D staff member or a school clerk?
- Basic questions on West Bengal: districts, the Chief Minister, the Education Minister and important schemes.
- Questions about your home district and local area.
- Basic computer questions (for Group C).
- Simple questions on your experience, if you have claimed any.
Interview tips:
- Wear simple, clean and formal clothes.
- Answer politely and confidently, in Bengali or English, whichever you are comfortable with.
- Don’t give false information about your experience or qualifications.
- Carry all your documents neatly arranged in a file.
- Reach the venue early.
Step 5: Group D Candidates: Prepare for the Job Role
- Understand Group D duties in schools: maintaining classrooms, handling files and registers, helping the office and teachers, and keeping school property safe.
- Basic reading and writing in Bengali is expected.
- If you have prior similar experience, keep a proper certificate ready, since experience carries marks.
Step 6: Stay Updated and Stay Safe
- Check westbengalssc.com regularly for the result, interview list, venue and schedule.
- Enable notifications from trusted news sources.
- Beware of fraud: WBSSC does not ask for money for selection. Ignore anyone who promises a job in exchange for payment, and report them.
- Don’t trust fake result PDFs circulating on WhatsApp. Always verify on the official website.
Score Slightly Below the Expected Cut Off? Don’t Lose Hope
- These are expected figures. The official cut off can be 1–2 marks lower.
- Cut offs vary by region, category, gender and medium, so your specific combination may have a lower cut off.
- Keep your documents ready anyway.
- Meanwhile, keep preparing for other upcoming West Bengal exams (WBPSC Clerkship, WBP Constable, Gram Panchayat, ICDS, etc.). The syllabus is very similar: GK, Arithmetic, Reasoning and English.
