JNVST Class 11 Admission 2027-28: The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the PROSPECTUS CUM NOTIFICATION FOR LATERAL ENTRY SELECTION TEST FOR ADMISSION IN JNVs IN CLASS XI (2027-28).

Online applications are invited from eligible students for admission to Class XI only against the vacant seats, likely to be available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) during academic year 2027-28. Admission will be made on the basis of Lateral Entry Selection Test 2027 which will be conducted by an external agency.

JNV Class XI Admission 2027 Eligibility Criteria – Who is ELIGIBLE?

1. Date of Birth:
Date of Birth of candidate must be between 1st June 2010 to 31st July 2012 (both days inclusive). Applicable to all categories including SC/ST. No relaxation.

2. Educational Qualification – Study Requirement:

  • Candidate must be studying in Class X from a Govt./Govt. recognized school (affiliated to CBSE or any other State Education Board / other Govt. recognized Board) of the district where the JNV is located during academic session 2026-27 (April 2026 to March 2027 session / January 2026 to December 2026 session).
  • Only Indian Nationals, who are studying Class-X in India are eligible.
  • Candidates who are studying in Class X during session 2026-27 ONLY are eligible.

3. Who is NOT ELIGIBLE?

  • Candidates who have passed Class X prior to session 2026-27 are NOT eligible.
  • If candidate studied Class X in different district than applied JNV district – Not eligible.

4. Rural & Urban Criteria:

  • Candidate studying Class-X in school located in rural area will be considered as rural candidate – Will get benefit under rural quota.
  • Candidate who has studied Class X in school located in urban area even for a single day will be considered as urban candidate. Urban areas are those defined by Govt. notification as on last date of submission.

5. Aadhaar Requirement:
As per Section 7 of Aadhaar Act 2016, child must possess Aadhaar Number or must apply for Aadhaar Enrolment before registering. JNVs have facility for Aadhaar Enrolment. Notification No. 33004/99 dated 09.01.2023 and 21.10.2022 released.

Reservation of Seats in JNV Class XI

Lateral Entry Test is to fill vacant seats only. Existing vacant seats in SC/ST/OBC/Divyang category as notified are reserved for respective categories. OBC reservation as per Central List. If candidate’s caste not in central list, apply as General.

  • Vacant seats under Rural/Girl/SC/ST/OBC/Divyang would be filled by candidates from same category.
  • No separate reservation for Transgender – They will be included in Boys for reservation under Rural, Urban, SC, ST, OBC, Divyang.
  • If qualified candidates not available in particular category, seats will be filled as per NVS norms.

Criteria for Selection – How Selection Will Be Done?

Selection against vacant seats likely to be available in Class XI after admitting internal Class X students of JNVs during 2026-27, subject to accommodation available and administrative exigencies.

Step-by-Step Provisional Selection:

a) District Wise Merit List: District wise merit list will be prepared. Twin conditions of residence and study of Class X from district concerned only will be considered under district merit.

b) Choice of Stream: Candidates desirous of admission in only one stream are advised to apply for that stream only. However provision is made to apply for maximum of two streams. Multiple options exercised will be considered in order Science, Commerce and Humanities. For each stream, applicant may choose maximum three JNVs.

c) State Level Merit List: After selecting students against vacancies in JNV of district, a common merit list will be prepared at State level. Vacancies existing in any JNV of same State will be filled from State level merit list by considering merit and option exercised.

d) Other Points:

  • Candidates from one state are not eligible for admission in another state.
  • If selected for a JNV and stream, change of JNV / stream will NOT be entertained.
  • Newly admitted students have to undergo medical check-up by Vidyalaya Doctor. Students suffering from infectious disease / serious ailments shall not be admitted.
  • 10 Days orientation programme will be arranged to bridge learning gaps.

JNVST Class XI Exam Pattern 2027 – Selection Test Details

Centre for Examination: Each candidate shall appear at centre allotted as indicated on Admit Card. No change of centre. Must bring valid ID issued by Govt. Authority. Photo on Admit Card will be matched.

Medium: Bilingual – English and Hindi.

Composition of Test:

  • Duration: 2 Hours 30 Minutes – 11:00 AM to 01:30 PM
  • Total Questions: 100 Questions – 100 Marks
  • Additional Time: 50 Minutes extra for Divyang students as per Govt. norms
  • Single test booklet comprising all 5 sections

Method of Recording Answers:

  • Separate OMR Answer Sheet will be provided
  • Only Blue/Black Ball Point Pen to be used – Bring own pen – Use of pencil strictly prohibited
  • 4 options for each question – Darken corresponding circle
  • No change in darkened circle allowed – Striking, white fluid, erasing not allowed
  • 1 Mark for each correct answer – No Negative Marking

Streams and Merit Criteria – Most Important:

Candidate has to score minimum qualifying marks i.e. 06 marks out of 20 in all 5 subjects as per NVS criteria. However merit list will be prepared on basis of marks obtained in different subjects as per criteria (Out of 60):

NVS reserves right to modify selection criteria.

Tie-Breaking Rules if Same Marks Out of 60:
I. Female candidate will be preferred over male
II. If tie still exists, candidate who scored higher marks out of 40 (two subjects) excluding Mental Ability will be preferred
III. Even then if tie, candidate who scored higher marks out of 100 (all 5 subjects) will be preferred
IV. If tie not yet resolved, candidate whose age is less will be preferred

Availability of JNV wise streams for Lateral Entry subject to availability of vacant seats and accommodation – See Annexure-III in prospectus.

Syllabus for Class XI Lateral Entry Test 2027

Mental Ability (20 Q): Pattern Completion, Figure Series Completion, Geometrical Figure Completion (Triangle, Square, Circle), Mirror Imaging, Punched Hold Pattern (Folding/Unfolding), Calendar Time and Clock, Embedded Figure, Coding-Decoding, Orientation / Direction, Space visualization.

English (20 Q):
Section A – Reading Skills (10 Marks): Discursive passage including vocabulary, Case-based passage with visual input statistical data chart etc.
Section B – Grammar (10 Marks): Tenses, Modals, Subject-verb concord, Reported speech (Commands, requests, Statements, Questions), Determiners, Spelling, Syntax.

Mathematics (20 Q): Real Numbers, Polynomials, Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables, Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progressions, Coordinate Geometry, Triangles, Circles, Introduction to Trigonometry, Trigonometric Identities, Heights and Distances, Areas Related to Circles, Surface Areas and Volumes, Statistics (Mean Median Mode), Probability.

Science (20 Q): Chemical Reactions, Acids Bases and Salts, Metals and Non-metals, Carbon Compounds, Life Processes, Control and coordination in animals and plants, Reproduction, Heredity and Evolution, Light – Reflection & Refraction, Human Eye, Electric Current, Magnetic Effects of Current, Our Environment.

How to Apply for JNV Class XI Admission 2027-28?

Procedure to Register – Online Only:

  1. Visit www.navodaya.gov.in -> Click on Class XI Lateral Entry Selection Test 2027 Link
  2. Read prospectus and ensure eligibility
  3. Keep ready soft form JPG format 10 to 100 KB – Photograph, Signature of Parent, Signature of Candidate
  4. Fill basic details – State (residence and study), District (residence and study), Aadhaar Number etc.
  5. Choose Stream – Max 2 Streams – For each stream choose max 3 JNVs – Option shown in portal
  6. Upload photo and signatures
  7. Online platform is open source and free of cost – Can apply from desktop, laptop, mobile, tablet
  8. Help desk available in all JNVs to assist candidates/parents to upload application free of cost – Parents may approach JNV with candidate and required documents
  9. Submit – Information submitted will be taken as final – Use correction window for correction in selected fields only for 2-3 days after last date

Note: Application is collected only against vacant seats likely to be available. Hence applicants do not have any right to demand admission on basis of selection test.

Documents Required After Selection – At Time of Admission

Parents of provisionally selected candidates must submit following at time of admission for verification:

  • Proof of Date of Birth – Birth Certificate issued by competent Govt Authority
  • Proofs for eligibility as per NVS conditions
  • Copy of Class X Pass Certificate (Session 2026-27)
  • For Rural Quota – Certificate from competent District Administration that child studied Class X in rural area school
  • Residence Certificate – Valid residential proof of parent of same District where JNV located & candidate studied Class X (for District merit selection)
  • Copy of Aadhaar Card of candidate (As per Aadhaar Act)
  • Divyang Certificate if applicable – Signed by Chief Medical Officer
  • Category Certificate – SC/ST/OBC as per central list (Format Attached in prospectus)
  • Transfer Certificate from parent school AFTER verification of documents and confirmation of admission by JNV – After getting counter signature of DEO/BEO etc.

Provisional Selection and Admission Rules:

  • Provisional selection will not vest any right to secure admission. Each provisionally selected candidate must produce original certificates.
  • No provision for re-evaluation or re-totaling – Result processed through computer
  • Marks scored will not be communicated
  • If fraudulent document submitted at verification, no admission will be given and admission will be cancelled at any stage even after taking admission.
  • Verification of residence, age, pass certificate, category etc. will be done after result.
