  • The final selection is based only on the written test score. The skill test is on a qualifying (GO/NO-GO) basis.

Skill test shortlisting: For Technical Assistant and Technician 'B' posts, candidates who pass the written test are called for the skill test in the ratio of 1:5, with a minimum of 10 candidates per post. For Fireman 'A', the ratio is 1:50.

Fireman 'A' written test syllabus: basic chemistry related to flammable liquids and gases, LPG properties, relation between pressure, volume and temperature, area of triangle, rectangle and parallelogram, volume of cylinder, cone, sphere and cuboid, properties of water, CO2, O2, H2 and inert gases, basic electricity and its hazards, simple arithmetic (Class 10), basic English, and General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

Other standards for all: Body Mass Index 18 to 28, waist to hip ratio of 1 or less, chest expansion of at least 5 cm, and distant vision of 6/6 in each eye without glasses or any aid. Hearing, heart sounds, ECG, respiratory, neurological and musculo-skeletal systems must be normal, and there should be no known psychiatric illness.

Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) certificate: You must upload a PME certificate in the format of Annexure A with your application, and submit it during the skill test. It must be issued by a Government Medical Officer (Allopathy) not below the rank of Assistant Civil Surgeon, and is valid for 6 months. Only those who upload the certificate and meet the standards are called for the skill test.

Disqualifications: Knock knee, bow legs, flat foot, night blindness, colour blindness, squint, monocular vision, glaucoma, implanted pacemaker, anaemia (haemoglobin below 10 gm%), random blood sugar above 180 mg/dl, hernia, hydrocele, haemorrhoids, varicose veins, heart diseases, seizure disorders, bronchial asthma and COPD, among others listed in the advertisement.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The PET is held in two stages, and you must qualify in every event. Those who qualify then go for the Detailed Medical Examination.

Three attempts are allowed in the long jump only. All other events have one attempt. Spike shoes are not allowed. Selected Fireman 'A' candidates must stay in the Essential Staff Quarters at IPRC.

Applications are accepted online only. Physical applications, emails, resumes or CVs are not accepted. Candidates registered on the National Career Services (NCS) portal and meeting the eligibility can also apply through the IPRC careers page.

  1. Go to the IPRC careers portal at career.iprc.gov.in (also linked from the Careers page of iprc.gov.in).
  2. Read the advertisement carefully and register with a correct and active email ID. All further communication for the written test and skill test will be sent only by email. Applications without a proper email ID are invalid.
  3. Fill in the application form with your personal, qualification and category details, and choose your written test city (Tirunelveli or Chennai).
  4. Upload your photograph, signature and the required certificates as per the specifications below.
  5. Check every detail, as the application cannot be edited after final submission.
  6. Submit the application and click Pay to pay the fee. You can also pay later through the link on the advertisement page, but before the last date for fee payment.
  7. Download and save the application form and the payment receipt. You do not need to send any printout or document to IPRC.

Photograph and signature specifications:

  • Photograph: recent, in formal dress with a light background, full face and eyes clear, no cap, hat or sunglasses, in .jpeg format with a maximum size of 1 MB. Selfies are rejected.
  • Signature: with a blue ink pen on white paper, in .jpeg format, maximum 1 MB, with an aspect ratio of 7:2 (for example, 70 pixels wide and 20 pixels high).
  • File names must not contain spaces, special characters or numbers. Upload only virus-free files.
