Jadavpur University B.Ed. Admission 2026-27: Online Application, Eligibility, Merit Calculation and Selection Procedure

Jadavpur University (JU), Faculty of Arts, has started accepting online applications for its B.Ed. Course 2026-27. The programme has a total intake of 100 seats as per NCTE norms. Admission is open to two categories of candidates: Freshers and Deputed teachers already working in schools.

The last date to submit the online application is 30 September 2026. Freshers will be selected on merit, using a weighted score based on their Secondary, Higher Secondary, Graduation and Post-Graduation marks. Deputed teachers will be selected on the basis of their years of uninterrupted approved service. Candidates can choose from three method subject groups: Humanities, Science and Social Science.

JU B.Ed. Admission 2026 – Key Points Candidates Should Know

Before applying, candidates should keep the following points in mind:

• There are 100 seats in the B.Ed. course, as per NCTE rules.
• The last date for online application is 30 September 2026.
• General/EWS freshers need at least 50% marks in Honours graduation or Master’s degree.
• OBC candidates need 45% and SC/ST/PD candidates need 40%.
• The maximum age for freshers is 35 years as on 30 September 2026. There is no age limit for deputed candidates.
• Only teachers who teach Class V to XII are eligible under the Deputed category.
• Applicants must have complete results at Bachelor’s (Honours) and/or Master’s level and must have passed all papers.
• Marks increased after review after 30 September 2026 will not be considered.
• The merit score for freshers is out of 100, and Post-Graduation carries the highest weightage (0.4).
• The final method subject will be decided after admission.
• OBC candidates must submit an NCL certificate issued on or after 18 May 2026.
• Only an EWS certificate for the 2026-27 financial year is valid.

Note: For deputed candidates, the 50% marks requirement does not apply to teachers appointed before the NCTE (Regulations, Norms and Procedure) Second Amendment Regulation, 2010 came into force.

Additional Eligibility Conditions

• Applicants must have completed results at Bachelor’s (Honours) and/or Master’s level.
• Applicants must have passed in all papers. Candidates with pending results or back papers are not eligible.
• If marks increase after a review, and the revised result comes after 30 September 2026, the additional marks will not be counted at verification or admission.

Deputed Category – Special Conditions

The Deputed category is meant for in-service school teachers. The conditions are:

Only teachers teaching Classes V to XII are eligible.

Teachers from Secondary/Higher Secondary schools affiliated to WBBSE/WBCHSE must produce the following at the time of admission:

• A copy of the appointment letter from the District Inspector of Schools.
• A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the school’s Managing Committee, countersigned by the District Inspector of Schools.

The Managing Committee must clearly certify whether the teacher teaches in Classes V to XII.

Jadavpur University will not be responsible for disbursing any deputation allowance.

JU B.Ed. Selection Procedure 2026

Selection of Fresher Candidates

Freshers will be selected in order of merit. The merit score is calculated from academic marks at each level using the weightage below.

How Higher Secondary marks will be calculated:

• WBCHSE: Best of 4 subjects, excluding Environmental Studies/Environmental Education (out of 400 marks).
• CBSE / CISCE / Other Boards: Best of 4 subjects (out of 400 marks).

Sample Merit Score Calculation

Here is how the score works for a candidate with a Master’s degree:

A candidate with only an Honours degree can score at most 60 (10 + 20 + 30). A Master’s degree adds up to 40 more points, so post-graduates have a significant advantage in the merit list.

Selection of Deputed Candidates

Deputed teachers will be selected on the basis of their number of years of uninterrupted approved service in Government or Government-aided schools, calculated as on 30 September 2026.
