About the CTET September 2026 Exam

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by CBSE to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching posts in central government schools (Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, and other central government institutions) for Classes I to VIII. Passing CTET is mandatory for recruitment as a teacher in schools governed by the central government.

The CTET September 2026 will be the 22nd edition of this examination. It will be conducted in offline (OMR-based) mode in two separate papers:

  • Paper I — For candidates who wish to teach Classes I to V (Primary Level)
  • Paper II — For candidates who wish to teach Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Level)

Candidates who wish to teach both levels may appear in both Paper I and Paper II.

CTET September 2026 Eligibility Criteria

While the detailed Information Bulletin is yet to be released, the general eligibility criteria for CTET, based on previous editions and NCTE norms, is expected to be as follows:

For Paper I (Classes I to V):

  • Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), OR
  • Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (for candidates who appeared in the exam before NCTE Regulation 2002), OR
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks AND 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), OR
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Special Education

For Paper II (Classes VI to VIII):

  • Graduation AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks AND 1-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), OR
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks AND 1-year B.Ed (under NCTE regulations), OR
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks AND 4-year B.El.Ed / B.A. B.Ed / B.Sc. B.Ed
