Railway RRB ALP Recruitment 01/2026 – Eligibility Criteria

Before you apply, make sure you meet every eligibility requirement listed below. Your candidature can be cancelled at any stage if you are found ineligible.

Nationality

You must be a citizen of India, Nepal, or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who settled in India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

The minimum age is 18 years and the maximum age is 30 years.

Educational Qualification

To apply for RRB ALP 2026, you need one of the following qualifications:

Option A: Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from a recognised institution (NCVT/SCVT) in any of the following trades — Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, or Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic.

OR Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the above trades.

Option B: Matriculation / SSLC plus a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering from a recognised institution.

A Degree in the above engineering disciplines is also acceptable in lieu of a Diploma.

Medical Standards for Railway RRB ALP Recruitment 01/2026

The post of ALP carries the most stringent medical standard in Indian Railways — A-1. Candidates must be physically fit in all respects, and vision standards are particularly strict:

  • Distant Vision: 6/6 in both eyes without glasses (fogging test must not accept +2D)
  • Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses
  • Must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, and Mesopic Vision

Important: Candidates who have undergone LASIK Surgery or any other refractive eye correction surgery are NOT ELIGIBLE for the post of ALP. This is a strict disqualification and there is no exception.

RRB ALP 2026 – Recruitment Process (Stage by Stage)

The selection process for RRB ALP 2026 consists of five stages:

Stage 1 – First Stage CBT (CBT-1)

This is a screening exam only. Marks in CBT-1 are NOT counted in the final merit list.

  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Total Questions: 75 (1 mark each)
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS – 40%, OBC/SC – 30%, ST – 25%

Syllabus: Mathematics, Mental Ability / Reasoning, and General Science (10th standard level)

Stage 2 – Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)

Candidates shortlisted from CBT-1 (15 times the number of vacancies per RRB) appear in CBT-2.

  • Total Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Total Questions: 175

Part-A (90 minutes, 100 questions): Covers Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and Basic Science & Engineering. Only Part-A marks are counted for shortlisting. Minimum qualifying: UR/EWS – 40%, OBC/SC – 30%, ST – 25%.

Part-B (60 minutes, 75 questions): This is a qualifying test only. Questions are from trade-specific syllabi as prescribed by the Directorate General of Training (DGT). Minimum qualifying mark is 35% for all categories. Degree/Diploma candidates must select a trade from the relevant engineering discipline group.

Stage 3 – Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates equal to 8 times the vacancies per community per RRB are shortlisted for CBAT based on Part-A scores of CBT-2.

  • Conducted only in English and Hindi
  • No negative marking in CBAT
  • Minimum qualifying: T-score of 42 in each test battery separately
  • Candidates must bring Self Screening Medical Declaration Report (Annexure VIIIA & VIIIB) on CBAT day

Stage 4 – Document Verification (DV)

Final merit is prepared combining Part-A of CBT-2 (50% weightage) and CBAT scores (50% weightage). Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are shortlisted for DV.

All original certificates must be produced at the time of DV — no additional time is granted.

Stage 5 – Medical Examination (ME)

Appointment is subject to clearing the Railway's medical fitness test as per A-1 standard. No alternate post is offered if a candidate fails the medical examination.

How to Apply for RRB ALP 2026

Follow these steps carefully to submit your online application without errors:

Step 1 – Create an Account Visit the official website of your chosen RRB. If you already created an account for previous RRB CENs (2024/2025), use the same login credentials. No changes are allowed to account details once created.

Step 2 – Aadhaar / DigiLocker Verification You are strongly advised to verify your identity using Aadhaar or DigiLocker during account creation. Candidates using alternate Photo IDs face stricter scrutiny at all stages.

Step 3 – Fill the Application Form Carefully fill in all personal, educational, and category-related details. You can only apply to one RRB and submit one application. Multiple applications result in permanent debarment.

Step 4 – Live Photo Capture The application module captures your live photograph via webcam or mobile front camera at the time of filling. Do not upload a pre-existing photograph. Wear dark-coloured, non-white clothing and do not wear glasses, cap, or mask.

Step 5 – Upload Signature Upload a scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format, written in black ink on white paper in cursive/running handwriting. Block or capital letter signatures are rejected. File size: 30 KB to 49 KB.

Step 6 – Self-Screening Medical Declaration You must declare conformity with prescribed physical and mental fitness standards including no LASIK surgery, no diabetes, no hypertension, and no psychoactive substance use.

Step 7 – Pay the Examination Fee Pay online through net banking, UPI, or debit/credit card before 16 June 2026 (23:59 Hrs). The fee refund is credited to the bank account linked with your Aadhaar number.

Step 8 – Note Your Registration Number After successful submission and payment, save your registration number. RRBs will not provide this again on request.

Application Modification Window

If you want to correct details in your submitted application (except account details and chosen RRB), you can do so during the modification window from 17 June to 26 June 2026 by paying a non-refundable modification fee of ₹250/- per occasion.
