Nationality
The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Age Limit

Sports Eligibility
Candidates are eligible under this scheme if they have:
- Represented a State or the Country in National/International competitions
- Won medals in Junior National Championships
- Won medals in Khelo India Youth Games (age above 18), Khelo India Winter Games, Khelo India Para Games, or Khelo India University Games
- Won medals in School Games Federation of India (SGFI) events
- Represented their University in Inter-University Tournaments
- Represented their State School Team in National School Games
For Chess specifically: Grand Master (GM)/International Master (IM) title (Open Category, including Woman Grandmaster) or Chess Olympiad participation is considered; National Open Chess Championship performance and medal-winning performance in the National Team Chess Championship also qualify.
Selection Criteria (Order of Preference) 2026
- Candidates who represented India in International Competitions (with Department of Sports clearance)
- Candidates who represented a State/UT in Senior or Junior National Championships, with medals/positions up to 3rd place (Senior National achievers preferred over Junior)
- Candidates who represented a University in Inter-University competitions or Khelo India University Games, with medals/positions up to 3rd place
- Candidates who represented a State/UT in Khelo India Youth/Winter/Para Games, with medals/positions up to 3rd place
- Candidates who represented State Schools in National School Games, with medals/positions up to 3rd place
- Candidates who represented at the above levels but did not win a medal/position, in the same order

- Fill the application in the prescribed format (Annexure-A), in black or blue ink, in capital letters.
- Indicate the post(s) applied for — TA, MTS, or both, with order of preference.
- Attach a recent colour passport-size photograph (attested by a Gazetted Officer).
- Enclose attested photocopies of all supporting documents (Aadhaar, PAN, mark sheets, caste certificate, sports certificates, etc., attested by a Gazetted Officer).
- Enclose the Self-Declaration (Annexure-B) and, where applicable, category certificates (Annexure-C) and sports certificates in the specified forms (Annexure-D).

Income Tax Sports Quota Selection Process 2026
- Scrutiny: Applications are screened for nationality, age, educational qualification, and sports performance from 01.01.2022 to 30.06.2026.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates appear before a Selection Committee with original documents; only photocopies submitted with the original application will be considered. Already-employed candidates must submit an NOC from their employer.
- Ground/Field Proficiency Test: Shortlisted candidates are evaluated for proficiency in their respective sport/game.
- Data Entry Skill Test (TA only): Candidates shortlisted for Tax Assistant must additionally qualify a Data Entry Skill Test at 8,000 key depressions per hour.
- Final Selection: Made strictly in order of merit, based on evaluation of best sporting performance (01.01.2022–30.06.2026) and marks in the Ground/Field Proficiency Test.
