Bihar STET 2026: Notification Out for Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test, Apply Online from 17th August

Bihar STET 2026: The Bihar Vidyalaya Pariksha Samiti (Bihar School Examination Board) has released the official notification for the Madhyamik Shikshak Patrata Pariksha (STET) 2026 — the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test — inviting applications from candidates aspiring to become secondary and senior secondary school teachers in Bihar. The notification has been issued based on the letter of the Director, Secondary Education, Education Department, Bihar (Letter No. 09/STET-17-02/2026-1239, dated 11.08.2026).

Bihar STET 2026 will be conducted to prepare an eligibility list for teaching positions at the secondary (Class 9–10) and senior secondary (Class 11–12) levels across the state. Interested candidates can apply online from 17th August 2026 through the official website.

The Bihar STET 2026 is divided into two separate papers based on the teaching level:

• Paper-I (Madhyamik/Secondary): For candidates seeking eligibility to teach at the secondary level (Classes 9 and 10). The syllabus for Paper-I subjects is based on the graduate-level curriculum applicable in the state’s universities.
• Paper-II (Uchch Madhyamik/Senior Secondary): For candidates seeking eligibility to teach at the senior secondary level (Classes 11 and 12). The syllabus for Paper-II subjects is based on the graduate (Honours)-level curriculum applicable in the state’s universities.

Candidates may apply for Paper-I only, Paper-II only, or both papers, depending on their qualification and the level they wish to teach at. Note that Multi Media & Web Technology is not taught as a subject in state schools, so no separate test is held for it under Paper-II. For the Commerce discipline, Paper-II covers Entrepreneurship (EPS), Accountancy, and Business Studies.

Paper-I (Secondary) — Major Subjects: Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Maithili, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Bhojpuri, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, and Dance.

Paper-II (Senior Secondary) — Major Subjects: Hindi, Urdu, English, Sanskrit, Bangla, Maithili, Magahi, Arabic, Persian, Bhojpuri, Pali, Prakrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Home Science, Commerce, Agriculture, and Computer Science.

Each subject has a distinct subject code that candidates must select carefully while filling the online application form, as the detailed notification specifies that the choice of subject/subject code cannot be changed later.

Bihar STET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: The applicant must be a citizen of India.

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must hold the qualification/eligibility prescribed under the Bihar State School Teacher (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Action & Service Conditions) Rules, 2023 (as amended), read with the relevant departmental notifications. The subject-wise and subject-group-wise academic and training eligibility for Paper-I and Paper-II is detailed in Appendix-1 and Appendix-2 of the official notification respectively.

Minimum Qualifying Marks:

Note: A 5% relaxation in the minimum prescribed qualifying marks is applicable to SC/ST/EBC/BC and Divyang category candidates who are original/permanent residents of Bihar.

Bihar STET 2026 Age Limit

The minimum age required to apply is 21 years as on 01.08.2026. The category-wise maximum age limit as on 01.08.2026 is as follows:

Additional age relaxation of 10 years is admissible for Divyang (PwD) candidates, and 3 years for Ex-servicemen, as per the respective government resolutions. As per Bihar’s reservation policy, age and other relaxations are applicable only to candidates who are permanent residents of Bihar; candidates residing outside Bihar are treated as General category for all relaxation purposes.

Bihar STET 2026 Application Fee

The application fee can be paid online through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI at the time of form submission.

How to Apply for Bihar STET 2026

Candidates can apply online through the official website stetregistration.cbrt.co.in. The application process involves three main stages:

Step 1 — Registration: Visit the official website and open the Registration Page. Fill in the required basic details and click on the “Generate OTP” button. Complete the registration process by entering the OTP. The User ID and Password will be sent to the applicant’s registered mobile number via SMS.

Step 2 — Form Filling: Log in to the website using the User ID and Password received. Fill in personal, educational, and other required details in the application form.

Step 3 — Upload Photograph and Signature: Upload a scanned colour photograph (recent, with a white or light background, clearly showing the face and eyes, size 80KB–200KB, dimensions 3.5cm x 4.5cm) and a scanned signature (size 50KB–200KB). Photographs taken wearing a cap, any headwear, or dark glasses are not acceptable.

Step 4 — Fee Payment: Pay the applicable examination fee through the online payment gateway.

Step 5 — Preview and Submit: Click the “Preview” button to recheck all entered details. If any error is found, correct it and click “Save” to secure the final application.

Candidates are advised to keep their User ID and Password confidential and safe for future reference, and to avoid using capital letters while signing the declaration/application form.
