How to Prepare for the WBPSC IDO Exam

Time Allocation Strategy

  1. Start with high-weightage sections: Mental Ability and Arithmetic (20 marks) first, then English, Environment, Physical Science and Industrial Scenario (15 marks each).
  2. Master the West Bengal angle: Industrial potential and state schemes are rarely covered in generic GK books, so they give you an edge.
  3. Revise science basics: Class 9 to 12 level Physics and Chemistry is sufficient.
  4. Take mock tests: Practise in the real format of 100 questions in 90 minutes. Try our Mock Tests and Daily Quiz.
  5. Manage negative marking: Each wrong answer costs 0.25. Attempt questions you can eliminate down to two options and skip pure guesses.
  6. Prepare for the interview: Revise your educational subject, basic MSME knowledge and speak Bengali confidently.

Sample Scoring Math

If you attempt 90 questions and 80 are correct, you score 80 - (10 x 0.25) = 77.5 marks. That is why accuracy matters more than the attempt count.

PwBD Scribe and Compensatory Time

Eligible PwBD candidates with limitation in writing may use a scribe and get 20 minutes compensatory time per hour on production of a valid Appendix-I certificate. Engagement of a scribe cannot be accepted after final submission of the application.

Documents and Photo ID Required

Mention any one valid Photo ID in the application and carry the same original ID to the exam venue:

  • Madhyamik or equivalent certificate with photograph
  • Passport
  • PAN card
  • EPIC (Voter ID)
  • Driving licence
  • Any other ID issued by State or Central Govt.

Need to prepare your photo and signature files? Use our free Image Resizer, Photo & Signature Joiner and PDF Compressor.

Exam Day Rules to Remember

  • A valid admit card is mandatory; the venue cannot be changed
  • Mobile phones, Bluetooth devices and smart watches are strictly prohibited; frisking is done at entry
  • Applying more than once leads to cancellation of candidature
  • Application once submitted is final; false information leads to penal action
