How the Vacancies Are Spread Across States

This is a state-specific recruitment — meaning each vacancy is tied to a particular state, and every applicant must be proficient in that state's local language. You can only apply for one state, and switching later isn't allowed. Some of the larger vacancy pools include West Bengal (80, requiring Bengali), Assam (85, requiring Assamese/Bodo), Karnataka (78, requiring Kannada), and Gujarat (77, requiring Gujarati), while several northeastern states and union territories have smaller counts. The complete state-wise breakdown, along with category-wise reservation numbers, is available in the official notification.

Selected candidates stay posted within their chosen state for up to nine years of service, or until they're promoted to SMG Scale IV — whichever happens first.

Who Can Apply for PNB LBO Posts: Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens, or fall under specific categories like subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who settled in India before January 1962, or persons of Indian origin who migrated from certain listed countries with the intent to settle permanently in India (subject to an eligibility certificate from the Government of India).

Age: Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years old, with the cut-off date for calculating age set at July 1, 2026. Age relaxations apply for reserved categories — 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 10 years for persons with benchmark disabilities, and 5 years for eligible ex-servicemen and those affected by the 1984 riots.

Education: A graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university is required, and candidates must already hold their degree or a valid marksheet by the registration closing date.

Local Language: This is a non-negotiable requirement — candidates need to read, write, and speak the specified language of the state they're applying under. Those who didn't study this language in 10th or 12th grade will need to clear a separate Local Language Proficiency Test.

Work Experience: A minimum of one year of post-qualification experience in the clerical or officer cadre at any Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank is mandatory. Candidates with prior officer-level experience in a role comparable to a Scale-I Generalist Officer may even be eligible for up to two advance increments in pay.

Selection Process

The recruitment unfolds in up to four stages:

  1. Online Written Test — covering Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General/Economy/Banking Awareness, for a total of 150 questions and 150 marks. Wrong answers attract a penalty of one-fourth mark each, and candidates need to clear minimum cutoffs in every section (40% for General/EWS, 35% for reserved categories).
  2. Screening — document and application verification for those who clear the written test.
  3. Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) — required for candidates who didn't study the relevant language academically; this is qualifying in nature, and failing it disqualifies a candidate regardless of other scores.
  4. Personal Interview — worth 50 marks, with a minimum qualifying score of 50% for general candidates and 45% for SC/ST candidates.

Final merit is based on combined written test and interview scores, prepared separately for each state and category, and candidates must clear the LLPT (where applicable) to make it onto the final list.
