Good news for all students waiting anxiously! The WBCAP First Merit List 2026 has been officially released today, June 9, 2026 at 10:00 AM. If you applied for undergraduate admission through the West Bengal College Admission Portal during Phase-1, it's time to log in and check your allotment.
The merit lists are available college-wise and subject-wise for all 475 government and government-aided colleges across West Bengal. You can download the PDF directly from the official website — wbcap.in.
What Is the WBCAP Merit List?
The merit list shows which students have been shortlisted for admission to a particular college and subject. It is prepared purely based on your 10+2 (or equivalent) exam marks, following the state government's merit-based admission policy.
Each student in the list is assigned a General Merit Rank (GMR) and a Category Merit Rank (CMR), along with a Merit Index and a Preference Number. These help you understand exactly where you stand among other applicants for the same college and course.
One important thing to remember — getting your name on the merit list does not mean your admission is final. It is provisional, and you'll need to complete physical document verification at your allotted college between June 27 and July 4, 2026.

What Information Is in the Merit List PDF?
When you open the merit list PDF for your college and subject, you'll find the following details for every applicant listed:
Your Application Number and Student Name are mentioned alongside your Gender and Category (General, SC, ST, OBC-A, or OBC-B). It also shows whether you fall under the PwD (Person with Disability) category. Most importantly, you can see your GMR, CMR, Merit Index, and Preference Number. There are also 9 Tie-Break Rules listed, which are used when two students have identical scores — factors like higher marks in a specific subject or age may decide the final order.
How to Download Your Merit List
Checking your merit list is simple. Go to wbcap.in or banglaruchchashiksha.wb.gov.in and look for the "Phase-1 Merit List / Seat Allotment 2026" link on the homepage. Click on it, then select your college and the subject you applied for (for example, B.A. Honours in Bengali or B.Sc. Honours in Physics). The PDF will open on your screen. Press Ctrl+F and type your Application Number or Name to find your entry quickly.
You can also log in to your personal dashboard on the portal to directly view your allotment status without searching through the PDF.
Important Dates You Must Know
The online admission window is open from June 9 to June 15, 2026. If you've been allotted a seat, you must accept it and pay any applicable fees through the portal within this period — no physical visit to the college is needed at this stage.
If you're happy with your allotment, complete the process and wait for document verification. If you want a seat at a higher-preference college or course, you can participate in the Upgrade Round, with results coming out on June 20, 2026.
Students who were not allotted any seat in Phase-1 don't need to worry either. The Phase-2 Mop-up Round will be open from July 7 to July 16, 2026, giving everyone another chance.
Finally, classes for the 2026-27 session will begin on July 6, 2026.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
The entire WBCAP application process was completely free of cost. Students were allowed to apply for up to 25 different programmes across multiple colleges. The admission process is fully online — no need to visit any college physically until the document verification phase. All fee payments must be made only through the official portal, not directly to the college.
