Essential Qualifications

Professor

  • Ph.D. in the concerned/allied discipline with a minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed/Scopus/Web of Science or JNU Academic Index (JAI) indexed journals.
  • At least 10 years of teaching/research experience at the university level, with evidence of successfully guiding doctoral candidates.
  • A total research score of 120 as per UGC Regulations 2018, Appendix II, Table 2.
  • OR an outstanding professional with a Ph.D. and 10 years of significant industry/academic experience.

Associate Professor

  • Ph.D. in the relevant discipline.
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.
  • At least 8 years of teaching/research experience at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 7 publications in peer-reviewed/Scopus/JAI indexed journals and a research score of 75.

Assistant Professor

  • Master's degree with 55% marks in the relevant discipline from an Indian University or accredited foreign university.
  • Must have cleared UGC-NET/CSIR-NET, or hold a Ph.D. awarded under UGC regulations (2009 or 2016), which provides exemption from NET/SLET/SET.
  • A 5% marks relaxation at Master's level is available for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD candidates.

Step 1 — Visit the Official Portal Go to jnu.ac.in/career and navigate to the Teaching vacancies section under RC/75/2026.

Step 2 — Register on CU-CHAYAN Applications are accepted exclusively through the CU-CHAYAN online portal. Create an account if you don't already have one.

Step 3 — Identify the Correct Post Number Each of the 122 positions has a unique post number. Ensure you select the correct post before filling in your application. A separate application form is required for each post.

Step 4 — Fill the Application Form Enter all academic, professional, and personal details carefully. The eligibility of candidates is determined based on qualifications/experience/publications held up to the last date of submission.

Step 5 — Upload Required Documents Upload scanned copies of: photograph, signature, certificates and marksheets (Bachelor's, Master's, M.Phil., Ph.D., NET), reprints of published research articles, date of birth certificate, caste/EWS/PwD certificate (as applicable), NOC from current employer (if in government/PSU service), and an undertaking that publications are free from plagiarism.

Selection Process

Shortlisting is based on academic qualifications and research scores as specified in UGC Regulations 2018 (Appendix II, Table 3A for Assistant Professor positions). Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview, which may be conducted in online or offline mode or both, at JNU's discretion. Call letters will be sent only via email.

Key points to note:

  • Possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee a call for interview.
  • Where applications are numerous, JNU may restrict candidates based on qualifications/experience higher than the minimum prescribed.
  • Time spent pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D. is not counted as teaching/research experience.
  • Research period during active teaching (without leave) is counted as teaching experience.
