Selection Process for MEXT Scholarship 2027

The MEXT Scholarship selection is a two-stage process:

Stage 1 – First Screening (conducted in India): Written Examination (subject varies by category and field of study)

  • Interview (conducted online)
  • Shortlisted candidates are notified by the Second Week of June 2026
  • Results of First Screening notified by End of July 2026 

Stage 2 – Worldwide Final Screening by MEXT (conducted in Japan): 

  • Approximately 12 candidates who pass the First Screening from India will proceed to the worldwide final screening conducted by MEXT, Japan
  • Final selection is made by MEXT, Japan
