Selection Process
The selection process for GWSSB Assistant Engineer consists of two stages:
Stage 1 — Preliminary Test (Written Exam)
All eligible candidates will first appear in a Preliminary Test. Based on the merit list from this test, candidates will be shortlisted for document verification and the interview round. Candidates scoring less than 15% marks in the Preliminary Test will not be considered eligible for the interview.
The tentative months for the Preliminary Test are:
- General Studies paper: July 26, 2026
- Concerned Subject paper: August 30, 2026
Stage 2 — Interview (Viva Voce)
Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Test are called for an interview at the Commission's office in Gandhinagar. The number of candidates called for interview per vacancy follows this pattern:
| Vacancies | Candidates Called for Interview |
|---|---|
| 1 | 10 |
| 2 | 16 |
| 3 | 18 |
| 4 or more | 3 times the vacancies or 20, whichever is higher |
Final Merit List
The final selection is based on a weighted marks system:
[Prelim Test Marks × 50/300] + [Interview Marks × 50/100] = Total Weighted Marks (out of 100)
In other words, both the Preliminary Test and the Interview carry equal weightage of 50% each in the final merit.
The final result will be published within 10 working days after the completion of interviews.
Exam Pattern
Preliminary Test Structure
The Preliminary Test is a single-session objective (MCQ) exam with the following structure:
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Studies | 100 | 100 | Combined |
| Concerned Subject (Civil/Mechanical) | 200 | 200 | Combined |
| Total | 300 | 300 | 180 minutes |
The medium of the exam will be Gujarati unless the Commission decides otherwise. The exam is generally held at Gandhinagar or Ahmedabad, and candidates must attend at their own expense.
Interview
The interview carries a maximum of 100 marks and is conducted at the Commission's office. On the day of the interview, candidates must bring all original certificates along with self-attested copies and a printout of the barcode-marked application form. Candidates who fail to produce original documents will not be permitted to appear for the interview.
